How to work with a Taste Passport at the register

A one-page guide for staff at participating businesses. Print it, keep it near the register, or share it with whoever covers the counter in October.

What a passport holder shows you

A passport holder opens their passport on a phone and shows a QR code plus their check-in code. The code is a short token like ABC123 — not a credit card, not a coupon, and not tied to any specific order total.

You do not need to install an app. The check-in is handled through the Taste website.

How to check them in

  1. Ask the customer to open their passport link on their phone. They will see a QR code and a short code.
  2. Scan the QR code with your own phone camera or a generic QR scanner. It opens tasteoftimnath.com/taste/checkin/....
  3. If scanning does not work, enter the short code manually at the same URL shown on their screen.
  4. The page confirms the check-in. You can now apply your business's Taste offer to their visit.

How to honor the offer

Each business sets its own approved offer and restrictions. The restrictions are part of the offer — for example, "not during Happy Hour" or "Timnath Beerwerks beers only." Apply your offer exactly as approved. If you are unsure what the approved offer is, check your business's listing on the Taste directory or contact the Chamber.

The passport does not cover items outside the offer. Anything beyond the listed offer is paid for normally.

If something goes wrong

  • "The page says offer unavailable" — the customer's passport may have already been used at your location this visit, or the campaign window has ended. Politely ask them to show the passport details, and call the Chamber if it does not match what you see.
  • "I can't scan the QR code" — use the short code instead. Ask the customer to tap the code to copy it.
  • "The customer says they bought a passport but have no link" — they can open the confirmation email or contact membership@timnathchamber.com for help.
  • "Someone wants to use a screenshot or a printed code" — the passport is meant to be opened live on the holder's phone. If they cannot open it, direct them to the support email.
